Whether sunny or shaded: Venetian blinds controlled by Building Management Systems (BMS) always know what they have to do!
BMS controls Venetian blinds mounted between two glass façades that are activated if the sun gleams into the rooms. However, as soon as the shadow of neighbouring buildings darkens the façade, the blinds open again.
The Venetian blinds arranged between the glass façades are controlled by the intelligent PC control centre – the UZ-500. In order to regulate them as finely as possible, the entire complex is divided into many sectors. Each sector can be managed independently. The blinds only work if the sun is actually shining on the sector. Of course, the automatic feature also enables the system to control the effect of the shadows of neighbouring buildings. The building control technique has superordinate access to the system at all times.
The Wellcome House is located in central London. The vertical façade of the eight-storied office building is made of a double façade. The inner layer is a thermally separated construction with insulated vitrification and glass sliding door systems. The naturally ventilated space in between is fitted with an automatically controlled sun protection mechanism. For cleaning and maintenance, the space in between the façades can be accessed using a stainless steel grating.
The outer layer is made of floor-height, 2 x 10 mm thick, glued safety glass.
